Descendants of Philippe Sohier

This tree was assembled in 2015 from two trees supplied to us, both of which contained a number of inaccuracies. Corrections were made based on church records and the resulting tree was believed to be reasonably accurate, until we received further information (see below).

There remains some confusion about Edouard Jean Sohier (1732- ) and his children by two wives. The relationships as shown may not be correct.

The father of Philippe at generation one may have been another Philippe, born in about 1540. See Descendants of Sohier Le Roux for a suggested ancestry, the accuracy of which is open to considerable doubt.

There was also confusion between the two submitted trees over which Edouard was married to Rachel Le Brun. We believe it to be the Edouard at Generation 4 and not the Edouard at Generation 3, who we show as married to Marie Badier. It is possible, however, that there were two Rachel Le Bruns, and that the earlier Edouard was married to Marie Badier and then Rachel Le Brun.

There is further confusion over the parents of Charles (1668- ). His baptism register entry clearly shows him as the son of Edouard and Marie Badier, but the baptism record for his daughter Elizabeth shows the godparents as her grandparents, Thomas Sohier and Elizabeth Journeaux, which would make them Charles' parents. We have been unable to resolve this discrepancy.

In April 2018 we received a further version of the tree, with full supporting documentation, from a Sohier researcher. Pending full examination of the new tree and a comparison with this tree and another existing version on the site, taken from Payne’s Armorial of Jersey, we are including all three trees, with a recommendation that Descendants of Philippe Sohier - 3 is likely to be the most accurate of the three. In common with the majority of our trees, this descendancy has been subject to regular review by site editors and checked against Jersey church records. Trees including French ancestry have also been checked as far as possible against French primary records. It is not always possible to carry out such checks on sections of trees with United Kingdom and/or colonial content

For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.
